Reading the domain trend board

Every figure on a topic page is either a measurement, a forecast, or a statement that something could not be measured. Telling them apart is the whole skill.

A topic page carries four numbers and each one answers a different question. Read in the wrong order they look redundant; read in the right order they are a decision.

The score is now, the probability is later

The score out of a hundred is a reading of the present: how much evidence is moving, weighted by how much each kind of evidence has earned. The probability is a claim about the future and exists only if a forecast was published.

A topic can carry a high score and no probability at all, which means the evidence is moving and the engine has not yet met its own conditions for saying where it goes. That page says “no call yet” rather than showing a zero.

Independence is a manipulation check

It answers one question: is this activity coming from many people or from one operator running a script? A concentrated topic is discounted because the alternative is an engine that can be moved by anyone willing to register forty names. When the figure reads “not measured”, that is not a bad score, it is the absence of one, and it should make you more cautious rather than less.

The counted series, and what it counts

The chart shows predicted against observed, and the page names what is being counted. For most topics it is new domain names registered in the field, counted every day. Some topics have no counted series yet, and those say so.

You are probably not seeing today

Freshness is the product. A public reader sees the board 30 days behind, the first paid tier sees it 7 days behind, and only the top tier reads it live. Every page states which of those it is showing you, because a board that displays month old figures without saying so is the one dishonesty this product cannot afford.

  2. Prospector7 days behind
  3. DomainatorLive

This is also why an empty public board is not evidence of an empty product. A topic has to have been watched for longer than the lag before a public reader can see it at all.

From a topic to a name

A topic that is moving is not yet an opportunity. The shortlist on each topic page links to a public page per name, and the name checker scores a specific name on how clearly it says what you do, whether it survives being spoken aloud, whether the extension fits the field, and how distinctive it is. Those four carry fixed published weights, and the weighting is on the page rather than hidden behind the score.

Where to look next

How a forecast is made covers the conditions behind the probability, and the plans set out which lag each tier reads at.
